I’m fortunate enough to call this powerful force behind the hammer’s blow a great friend. I have watched and learned as he orchestrated many great events while staying in the humble shadows making others shine. Some of you in FABA have met him the first time two years ago when he was managing the fires and running the striking team for Claudio Bottero here in Ocala.
This time it’s his turn to shine! Let me introduce you all to Dennis Dusek!
Dennis was born in Houston Texas, raised in and around his current hometown Placerville in Northern California. His passion for blacksmithing started at an early age and eventually became his daily occupation after graduating from Sierra College in Rocklin, California.
Dennis is an active member and program chair of the California Blacksmith Association (CBA) and as such responsible for multiple successful blacksmith events on the west coast of the United States.
He often demonstrates and teaches blacksmithing at the nearby Boeger vineyard blacksmith shop.
His blacksmithing repertoire has a wide range from large sculptural pieces through delicate floral compositions to gates, railings and tools for the trade that encompass function and beauty as it must.
Throughout his career Dennis had the opportunity to work with multiple classical masters of the trade from Aspery to Bottero.
During his demonstration Dennis would like to share his experience from a workshop with Christoph Friedrich by demonstrating some of the projects learned under his tutelage. With the help of a team of strikers he will be forging a sculptural form using insert tools, fullering techniques and power hammer tooling.
Take your tong making skills to the next level with Dennis Dusek in his four-hour intermediate tong making workshop on Saturday morning. Each student will make an elegantly functional flat bar tong in signature Dusek Style.
